Privacy notice

This notice explains what personal information Distillery Finder collects, why, and what your rights are. Last updated 25 October 2026.

Who I am

Distillery Finder is an independent, non-commercial project run by Kyle, based in Edinburgh. I’m responsible for the personal information described here (the “controller”, in data protection terms). You can reach me through the contact page.

The contact form

When you send a message, I receive your email address, your message, the topic you chose, the distillery name if you gave one, your name if you gave one, and the page you came from.

I use this only to read and reply to your message, and to correct or add listings. The legal basis is my legitimate interest in answering people who get in touch and keeping the site accurate. Your email address is needed so I can reply; everything else is up to you.

Messages go through Wix’s form system, which checks them for spam (including automated checks of the message text) and adds your name and email address to my contact list so I can reply and keep our conversation together.

Analytics

If you accept analytics cookies, Wix collects information about your visit, such as the pages you view and the type of device and browser you use, so I can see how the site is used. This only happens with your consent, and you can withdraw it at any time with the button on the cookies page.

The map and trip planner

The map uses an anonymous visitor key to load distillery details; it doesn’t identify you. Your trip is stored only in your own browser and isn’t sent to me. The cookies page lists everything the site stores.

Who else handles your information

The site is hosted by Wix, and contact messages are stored in Wix’s systems. Wix acts as my data processor: it handles the information on my behalf and may process it outside the UK under its own safeguards, described in Wix’s privacy policy.

I don’t sell your information or share it with advertisers.

How long I keep it

I delete contact messages, and your entry in my contact list, 12 months after our last exchange. Messages flagged as spam are deleted automatically after 30 days.

Your rights

You can ask me for a copy of the information I hold about you, and ask me to correct it, delete it, or stop using it. Where I rely on your consent, you can withdraw it at any time. To make a request, use the contact page.

If you’re unhappy with how I’ve handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
